The Stones of Lyra - (anti) book review

When an earthly teenage girl falls into the net of the gods and moves to another world, she is usually confused and scared... But not here. She considers everyone as enemies and knows no one... Can't fully cope with the new reality? Or maybe there is no kindred spirit? Well, at the moment, this story breaks the stereotype. But are you sure?

Ariel is an unusual teenager who stands out from the crowd. She goes to a boarding school for girls and literally knows nothing about her family. The girl has no friends among her peers, on the contrary, the reader gets the impression that Ariel gets along only with adults and Tara, her only best friend. The unusual thing about the girl is her red hair and her habit of getting into trouble. Fiery curls and explosive temperament do not allow a girl to lead a peaceful existence. On her sixteenth birthday, Ariel receives a strange gift that the girl allegedly left behind for her parents. The subsequent course of events is disturbing and surprising. Day by day, the red-haired girl finds herself in more and more strange situations, while learning a little bit from her family history. However, the strangest thing is yet to come. Night escapes, meetings in the forest, or conversations with ... The raven. In addition, almost in the blink of an eye, the girl discovers that she has power and knows how to charm...

What is the title of Lear? Which gods threaten Ariel? What does the raven have to do with it? Who will a naive teenager trust? Will he be able to assess the threat? What should a teenager do to become the king of a certain country? Who is Ariel really?

The answers to these and other questions can be found in this book. She's bloated. However, that doesn't mean anything. To be honest, I'm not thrilled. Maybe because the action really folds in half forever. Maybe because this part ends in one place and not the other. Maybe it's because the prologue put me in a unique fantasy mood that broke with the first chapter and I couldn't rediscover it? I don't know. There are ideas for five medium-length novels in this book. It's a storehouse of ideas. However, thrown at once, they mix everything up. I don't know how the author will choose from all the characters and themes that appeared in the first part.

The book itself is not bad. The story is different and interesting. Ariel is a colorful character who slips away a bit in life, but knows all its sides. The story is clearly intended for young people. The style, the action, and the main characters make this very clear. Sometimes it's too clear, but some things are excusable. I don't want to criticize this book. He may surprise you, sometimes very positively. Often, when we think something is going to be like this, something else happens. And that's cool. However, this "steepness" is somewhat suppressed by my size. Thick books don't offend me, but I like rich ones. Here, with all due respect, I would shorten half of the scenes and throw out some of them.

Overall, I have mixed feelings. As a fantasy fan... no. Sorry, but it didn't bother me. It wasn't just a fantasy. Something was missing. As a teenager... yes. There is a young girl, she finds love, it turns out she knows how to charm. I'll give you the rest of the scores. Read it and judge for yourself.
